Back to the "Move"- James Gallagher & Matt Leines

After a short but relaxing weekend, we're back with some more work from "Move #19". We proudly present to you the work of James Gallagher and Matt Leines.

Enjoy!

James Gallagher:

James Gallagher merges material from sex manuals, books, magazines, folders, and other found material to create collages. Working with images of men in suits to women in the nude he utilizes a neutral, yet robust palette of vanilla, flesh, and grain-brown. His deceptively simple combinations elicit an unsettling sense of intimacy and anonymity in his characters’ mysterious worlds. This exploration is minimalistic, but astonishing in its conclusions.

Gallagher attended The School of Visual Arts, studying Illustration and Graphic Design. He is currently a Creative Director and lives in Brooklyn. Gallagher’s art has been featured in American Illustration, Communication Arts, Society of Publication Designers, and numerous Die Gestallen publications.

Matt Lienes:

Matt Lienes is a pseudo-historical painter with a twist- he depicts characters of fantasy and other worlds. Imagine splashing the Byzantine Empire into a graphically bright and luxurious comic. Visualize scenes of battle where the protagonist bleeds polyps of candy red, white, and black out of his neck… severed from his body and spewing onto the ground. His compulsive line work and detailing tell oddly mesmerizing stories of voyages and battles. Leines’ work has an intriguing aesthetic, influenced equally by the Hermetic Sciences and Hulk Hogan and He-Man.

Lienes’ work has been shown in the U.S., Athens, and Tokyo.
